5 Steps to Boost Your Credit Score on a Shoestring Budget

What’s good babes!! We’re gonna talk about turning your credit score from a frown into a crown, even if your wallet’s thinner than a tortilla! Mama’s got your back. Here are five fab steps to strut down the path of credit score glory:

1

Be Smart About That CardStart small, like a café con leche. Get a secured card or a student card with low limits. Don’t go swiping like you just won the lottery, okay? Use it for essentials like books or that occasional pizza.

2

Pay Pay Pay!My loves, pay that credit card bill on time. Paying on time avoids those nasty interest fees. Bebes, if you use $200 for new Air Jordans,  make sure you pay that $200 before your next due date. Set up reminders, autopay, or a neon sign, if you must!

3

Ay! Keep it Low! You don’t need the newest iPhone RIGHT. NOW. Keep your credit card balance below 30% of your limit and buy things that you know you can pay off without stressing so it’s easier on you. Mama wants to see that balance go from $100 to NADA at the end of the month.

4

Mix It Up Mis Cariños!Add some spice to your credit mix. Maybe a small installment loan or another credit card. Variety is the Sazon and Adobo of credit life!

5

Monitor Like a Hawk Keep an eye on your credit like you’re spying on your nosy neighbor. Check your credit reports at least twice a year. Most banks and credit cards give you access to credit reports and alerts. (Discover, Chase, Capital One, etc). My loves, don’t have a credit card that gives your credit alerts but no biggie! Go to annualcreditreport.com. It’s a gov site and doesn’t affect your credit score so look for errors and fix ’em!

So there you have it, my babies! Raising your credit score isn’t rocket science, but it does take a dash of discipline. Just remember, you’re climbing the credit ladder one step at a time, and Mama knows you’ve got this! 💃🌟
